Developed by John Atherton in the 1940's, the Atherton Number Two nymph is still an amazing "impressionistic" mayfly imitation. In many ways an improvement on the standard Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear pattern, the blue wing case provides a splash of color that makes this fly seem alive to a trout. The Atherton works well dead-drifted under an indicator or, in slower water, you can try the classic down and across swing presentation. Available in sizes 14, 16 & 18.
TIP: Try fishing an Atherton as the bottom fly in a two fly set-up behind a large Warden's Worry. Change the size an color to match what the fish are eating.
